What you can to help the Great Barrier Reef and other coral reefs
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most protected coral reefs in the world and the Australian government is currently working to improve the current conditions. However, there are many coral reefs around the world that are also suffering from climate change. While a change in environmental or climatic legislation would be the most effective way to help coral reefs here are some ways you can help make a difference.
- Conserve Water
- Carpool or make use of public transportation
- Recycle
- Do not liter
- Save electricity
- Do not pour chemicals down storm drains
- Volunteer for a reef clean-up or beach clean-up
- Do not touch coral when diving or snorkeling
- Do not take any shells or animals from reefs or tide pools
- Plant trees and mangroves along the shore line
- Spread the word about climate change and its effect on coral reefs
